Terrorism, As You Like It

by Kendall Clark

bq. A sharply divided Virginia Supreme Court struck down a state law against cross-burning Friday, saying such acts of bigotry are a protected form of speech.

bq. In a 4-3 ruling, the court threw out the convictions of three people in two cases. One involved the burning of a cross at a Ku Klux Klan rally; the other involved an attempted burning in the back yard of a black person.

burning a cross in someone’s yard….grow up people! if the guy or gal shot you in your ass for trying to instill fear in his/her children, you’d say they were wrong. white folks need to grow up! there are other people on this planet and everyone doesn’t want your ways shoved down their throat. whites need to respect others…..period!

  2. Yoda Says:

“white folks need to grow up”. What? How can you generalise white people over a cross burning. I’m from Sweden and a big part of our population is white. WE DON’T burn crosses. If a black man pees in another mans yard, does that mean that all black people run around peeing everywhere???

  3. kendall Says:

    Yoda,

If you would read taj’s comments with any sort of charity at all, i think you’d see that they apply to White Americans and likely have nothing whatever to do with Sweden.

That having been said, are you going to tell us there is no racism in Sweden? That seems very unlikely.

  4. Pamela Hairston Says:

I KNOW, SINCE WE ARE FIGHTING A WAR ON TERRORISM AND TERRORIST: LET’S DO AWAY WITH THE KKK, LET’S DO AWAY WITH THE KKK, LET’S DO AWAY WITH THE KLAN, FINALLY AND FOREVER. LET US APPEAL TO THE PRESIDENT AND THE NATION!!! PEACE.

  5. does not matter Says:

i just watched a documentary on aryan …well they all looked like a bunch of idots ! time to grow up.

saluting hitler..they even made a cake !!! ha ha .you brain wash kids for god sake …wake up ppl.

  6. erin Says:

I am so sick of black people running around acting like white people are the only ones that are racist. I am neither black or white or spanish but i have come to notice that there are far more racist black people then there are white.

  7. Amon MoShah Ra Says:

    Erin,

Blacks and other minority groups did not grow up with laws set to make sure they prosper and grow.

This is however the case for whites, and with a group who gets special attention just for having white skin will set the tone for hate from whites towards other groups who do not live up to their ideas.

More and more blacks as time goes by will continue to hate more and more whites as long as white privilege continues. Not out of jealousy, but because it’s giving white children a mythical idea for life that should not exist. As to say that the killing of Native Americans was good for the land. That kind of thinking.

In fact most countries that were effected directly by whites tend to hate them. They may want to continue trade and allow Americans to come into their ports, but the underline is they still have a strong hate for non menlin (whites) groups as shown on alot of billboards in Japan.

For the victim of rape to hate her or his raper is common, if it happens more than once for no fault of their own they(the victim) tend to hate the whole gender that person belongs too. The same goes for minority groups who hate non melin peoples. Only they (Minority groups) do not have groups world wide teaching that they are superior over other groups and should maintain their own peoples status of power. Again were talking about a power system and it’s victims.

  8. Thomas Says:

A bigot with a grievance is still a bigot.

Is hate a minority value? What is a minority? Does this change according to your location?

Please print some of the laws that favor “whites”.

If I object to be refered to as “non-melin people” are you obligated to call me what I choose? Is that a funny way of saying “flat chested”? Where did you get the idea that caucasians don’t have melanin? Why can’t you spell it?

If not, can I call you what I want? How about “logicaly challenged”

Why don’t African slave reparations supporters call for indiginous peoples’ reparations? Are you afraid there won’t be anything left for you? Do the Africans whose ancestors sold your ancestors owe you anything? Do the Muslims who first exported African slaves, and still do today? Are the decendants of non-African slaves entitled to reparations? Can past welfare payments be deducted from reparations? How about child support?

If the only justice you care about is for blacks, doesn’t that make you racist?

Why is Roots taught as fact, when it is, in fact, a work of fiction?

Do the Japanese, who you say hate us, have “yellowprivilege”? Since they are victims of western hegemony like you, can a black man be Emperor? Is it racisim if a Japanese treats me differently because of my race?

  9. Darryl Says:

Thomas your answer for white rights is above. The First Amendment.

Reparation for Blacks is right considering Japanese have been compensated and received apologies for WWII camps and the atomic bomb. American Indians have been compensated and many of them were slave owners. I feel that the United Nations should create an International Slave Reparation Fund and use some of the money paid by the member countries to compensate the slave descendants.

Welfare was proper considering the welfare received by whites on the backs of slaves who put millions in the pockets of whites. There are more whites than Blacks who receive welfare, disability and Government grants. Yet whites took land from Blacks after the Civil War and forced Blacks to have little or no education for fear of them advancing ahead of the whites or as they put it, ” The Master becomes the Servant…”.

Other Laws protecting whites were Repealed because they were unconstitutional based on the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence. But what gives a white man the right to create a white only requirement and kill a Black man because he dated a white woman.

Maybe you should go to Japan and experience racism, if it exist there, and see what it feels like to be a minority and a second class citizen…

  10. lily Says:

I find it kind of disturbing that someone in the course of these cases tried to draw a parallel between protest against the institution in power (via flag burning) and outright bigotry against an oppressed group (cross burning) as if they were the same thing. They’re not.

  11. udon'tneedtoknow Says:

Why does the kkk burn crosses that is like the most childish immature thing to do please just comment back and tell me why?why?

  12. Jay Says:

This site makes me sick. The Civil Rights Act was the biggest mistake ever made by the United States Gov. White people are becomming a minority in the country. We are becomming oppressed and the blacks are taking over!! Its not enough that they need lower grades and test scores to get in college, and they get free rides and full scholarship for less than average performance in school. It’s the attitude that whites are the over lords and the people who support this blasphemy with evidence pointing in the opposite direction that makes me sick!! This site is a disgrace!!

  13. rock Says:

in response to Jay, no, the Civil Rights Act was hardly a mistake, the United States never envisioned that us simple black people could ever amount to anything anyway, why we were just a bunch of monkeys, with the brain the size of a pea. They figured that we would eventually kill each other off because thats what animals in a jungle do right? It was that narrow mindness that gave us Civil Rights, and it the ignorace of people such as yourself that continutes to fuel our anger, I understand that you feel threaten beacuse your kingdom is being seriously challenged for the first time in modern history, but just understand that me as a 22yr, college grad, who earned every grade i got through countless hours of study, am seeing more and more of my black brothers and sister realized that they don’t have too feel worthless, because some god made white man says their a disgrace, we will fight, and we will continute to break down barriers, you better watch you back, we might take your job next!!

  14. Jesse Hall, University of Staint Thomas School of Law, Minneapolis, Minnesota Says:

    I was wondering:

Why does the “american Christian” church send missionaries around the world to preach the Gospel and show God’s love to others, but then fight to keep those same peoples from entering the United States, by increasing border-patrol and immigration security?

Why do “american Christian” send their money to over-seas missionaries to preach the “good news” and show God’s kindness to others, yet at the same time pay taxes to a government who doubles the defense budget and uses their monies to bomb and destroy those same innocent individuals they were “reaching out” to?

  15. equality man Says:

i am a white guy, and i dont like the image that black people made for us. suddenly white people are dorks and try to be cool like black people. black people say that white people are stupid and try to steal there style. This is all just a bunch of racism against white people. And the media just blows it out of proportion: “White men cant jump”; “pretty fly for a white guy”(as if a fly white guy is hard to come by); “roots”; “friday”. stop blaming us for things that other white people did to other black people along time ago. i am just sick of it. I never did anything to you or other black people.

  16. Jesse Hall, University of Staint Thomas School of Law, Minneapolis, Minnesota Says:

    “Equality” Man:

I don’t know you or your experience with life. Nevertheless, how do you explain the racial inequalities that still persist today? Even the Justice Dept. has announced alarming statistics concerning African-American males and the criminal justice process. Justice Dept. findings show unequivocally that arrest, conviction, and incarceration rates in Minnesota (where I happen to be living) are higher for African-American males than they are in Alabama (where a good friend of mine is living). You may not be a racist (or, at least you may not be a conscious one), but nonetheless, racism is alive and well in the U.S. and abroad. Why is it so many white persons (like you and I) have trouble appreciating that suspect classes are still deemed as such for a very good reason. De facto discrimination is not something that happened a long time ago—it’s happening now.

Moreover, when you say, “black people say that white people are stupid and try to steal there style,” it sounds like the very racism of which you are accusing the African-American community. To suggest that all black people say this, or all black people think that, is stereotypical and racist at its roots.

Oh, and one final thought: Offspring wrote “Pretty Fly for a White Guy” (a band of all-white rock-and-rollers). Further, did you think White Men Can’t Jump was written or produced by an African-American? And by the way, what does Friday or Roots have to do with making white persons look “stupid” or like their trying to steal anyone’s “style?” All of what you say kind of makes me wonder if your entire asserted thesis (which I really think is honestly believed by many white persons—at least many I have spoken with) is driven by some hyper-sensitive (racist) mindset. I really see no evidence of what you are suggesting. But even considering it, I really don’t care if white persons are actually discriminated against—as this is really not discrimination as much as it is an attempt to equalize the injustices and inequalities propagated by past and present hatred of persons different from the “majority.”

  17. tcl man Says:

    jesse

refering to your comment about religion and paying tax:

the religion that I am associated with pays taxes to the government because the bible says to obey the laws of the government unless the laws cause you to sin against god, however we don’t pay taxes to support war, because we believe in not killing anybody.

  18. Jesse Hall, University of Staint Thomas School of Law, Minneapolis, Minnesota Says:

    TCL MAN:

i can dig. let me clarify: why does the “american church” (not so pay taxes to, but) elect a leadership (republican) who is so in favor of both reaching out to AND destoying those of the same. i dont get it. most “amercian christians” i know are conservative republicans who (contrary to my connotations, supra) want to pay lower taxes when it come to helping those in need and higher budgeting when it comes to the U.S. defense dept.. Yet those same people show up sunday after sunday in church speaking of and supporting the idea of sending out missionaries around the world to preach Salvation to them. but then when those individuals attempt to enter the country to flee violence (both foreign (some certainly from U.S. aggression) and domestic, we stop them at the border and tell ‘em to go to hell.

maybe you have a different perspective as you seem a little closer to “the church.” im glad to hear your response to my second question above. i truly believe all war is bad war–not to mention this whole idea of a legal war seems to have evaporated after WWII!!

but hey, no woman, no cry.

  19. Anna-Atlantis Says:

    To whom it may concern,

I am a 17 year old Female who comes from Australia. More than anything what makes me so sad is racisim. The blind and bitter hatred that spreads from within it. I have read so many articles written by the KKK, all proclaiming their message and all i have felt like doing is crying. I just want to say something, and please listen, that to anybody out there, anybody who thinks, racisim, segregation or discrimination are ok, i want you to know, that all of these things are the cause of the worlds pain, the cause of war and battle. We must learn that everyone, no matter what colour, creed or religion has something valuable to offer the world. Dont you all realise, that we are all equal, that we can never judge someone merely by the colour of their skin, it in itself is as superficial and as childish as judging a horse on the colour of its fur. Dont be fooled by racist groups such as the ku klux klan, they have so much hate within them all they want to do is spread it.. if anything, i want you all to go out and love people, love the world, love the people who live in it, not by what they look like, but by what they do…the world is in great peril and we need to unite and come together, as War is never a solution…as earnest hemingway once said, “The world is a fine place, truly worth fighting for”

  20. daniella Says:

you know people say forget the past and move on not realizing that history always repeats itself.some people are just blinded or refuse to accept that racism still exists some people dont know about african history so let me break it down.Africa is one or is the most richest country in the world in the days of ancient african and eygypt of course they had gold, emeralds purple stone, black gold oil of course you name africa had it even dimonds now the the blacks use to trade with one another many of the africans were heirs of pharoh now when the europeans came they saw that it was a beautiful rich fertile land a land flowing with milk and honey they wanted but when they saw that the people were dark skinned they were totally disgust and put into bondage like the hebrews so you see how history repeats itself but let me put it this way blacks are the ones who should have all the money we know who the poor ones are because it was the whites back then who stole so obviously they were poor that they had to steal african lands and native american lands and thats why africa is so poor today because the resources are gone and it takes thousands of years to replace, but since the africans didnt have better weapons to defeat the english they were forced into bitter bondage becuase if they had guns back then because africa was isolated from the world the blacks would have won,but oh yeah i guess we have to forget the past right even though history repeats itself, some whites still think their superior to other groups or else they wouldnt be callin us minorites which second class citizen might as well say they are lower so there racism will continue to exist point blank.

  21. Whitney Says:

Well I think that everyone is getting a little ahead of themselves. I think that all races should stick together. Don’t let what goes on around you interfere. I am white yes, I just moved to a town where there were more than 5 black people. Therefore I had lived in pretty much an all white town until I was 15. I can say that I got a long with the black girls and the black guys a lot better than the white. Not everyone is racist I can tell you that much. Dont let those cults impact your thinking on the whole society.

  22. cemal ismail Says:

you know when god created man in this world in his own image he gave them color to make this world a variety of difference.cause difference is
what makes style.and everyone knows that our culture we have in the united states today is formed from diversity not from just one race if every race stayed in there own country they wouldnt get that style that they have today so every race should shut the fuck up and be americans. or get the fuck out cause when you do
go there your going to regret every stupid thing u
said about this contry this aint england this aint italy this aint spain this aint africa this aint russia or china or the middle east this is america love it or leave it

  23. LandOfTheFree Says:

Let me first just say that I am a white female in the US. I have heard many of my friends say that black people should just get over the past because the majority of white people alive today weren’t the ones who had slaves and the black people today weren’t the slaves. I agree with this statement, but the only thing is that their is still racism apparent today. I personally don’t judge people by their outer appearance because just because someone is white doesn’t mean that they are smarter, funnier, or “better” than a person of a different “minority” race. I agree with whoever said that minority isn’t a good word, it only makes you think that those people aren’t as good which is definatly not true. I recently moved from a very large city to a small town where there are only 4 black people, 0 hispanic, and 2 Asians in the entire school. This was a big shock because I was used to having tons of different races mixed together. Since they aren’t exposed to different races, cultures, religions ect. everyone is the same. They are all white christians and there is even a huge painting of Jesus in the main halway of the school. Everyone is also very racist and close-minded, this seems ridiculous, I mean come on it’s 2005. Everyone should be treated the same especially white people, they shouldn’t get special privliges!
