I feel that issues of who did what to whom, you versus me and us against them should be far off in the periphery. Those avenues never address the overriding issue and only serve to fuel the field of polemics. There is an element in our species that is universal. Thoughout recorded history nearly all of our cultures have indulged this element. Shit runs down hill and when you and your people are on top,you will do anything to perpetuate the good times. This is not indigenous to one culture, one race or one country but resides in the darker regions of all our hearts. Power and our desperate attempts to get some or keep some will continue to divide humanity while highlighting and overemphasizing our differences. I think as a species, we tend to look to external sources and assign them a power. The concept of a hero implies acts or feats that are beyond our capacities and we readily assign the hero a special status or power. Power, or your sense of it, starts in your own heart. It is yours by virtue of BEING. The first step for all of us could be the arduous task of self-examination,and the recognition of personal power that can weather the attacks from all external structures. It’s easy to give it away but difficult to nurture, respect and keep it.But I’m probably wrong. It probably IS the whites’ fault.
There was a case in Tulsa, OK where a man named Christopher Williams had found his family had lost alot of land by the klan killing his uncle and aunt. The children got away, but never went back to reclaim the land. He found the land had been sold to a another family who also were members of the klan. The local officals, nor the county clerk would help the Williams reclaim the land so Mr. Williams took it upon himself to rid the people of the property by doing the same thing to the family as they had done to his. Now with the family gone he could reclaim the land stolen.
Months later he went back to the county clerk gave them the deed to the land and reclaimed his familys land. With no evidence to any wrong doings he was able to reclaim the land and every thing on it which included oil. This was in 1989. Im sure there are hundreds if not thousands of cases like this one. I have even seen where mineral rights could not be sold and major companies lost entire buidings due to the stolen land. Since most whites refuse to talk about reparations of a slavery past this is a better way to clear up the harm done since most of the land was stolen as recent as the late 50’s.
