Take the Birmingham Pledge

by Kendall Clark

The Birmingham Pledge:

I believe that every person has worth as an individual.

I believe that every person is entitled to dignity and respect, regardless of race or color.

I believe that every thought and every act of racial prejudice is harmful; if it is my thought or act, then it is harmful to me as well as to others.

Therefore, from this day forward I will strive daily to eliminate racial prejudice from my thoughts and actions.

I will discourage racial prejudice by others at every opportunity.

I will treat all people with dignity and respect; and I will strive daily to honor this pledge, knowing that the world will be a better place because of my effort.

I read the article posted by Kendall Clarke on the GM matter. I could agree with the point of the article, except there was no mention of “comparative credit ratings” in conjunction with those allegedly discriminated against. As I read further rants, my eyes started to gloss over and I was unable to read further. I could not understand why the rants were so extended.

…then I remembered the title of the Web Site. The site’s name is implicitly racist. There are no opposing articles, such as job bias against whites.

I personally, and two cousins have been denied jobs because the jobs were set aside for minorities (we ascertained the facts direct;y from personnel, based on their statements or friend’s inquiries.) This aspect does not even go into job promotions denied us with a better education, experience etc because there was a perceived need to have a politically correct managerial staff. In reality, the best qualified, using objective standards, should get a position or promotion. The situation is now an extension of the negativism against the “WASPs” of the 1950-60s. Now it is basically, all white Christian males are subjected to discrimination.

The “reverse” discrimination has its effects too. I do notpersonaly use professionals who are black because I do not trust their accredation. This is not raciist - it is reality.

I think that the birmingham pledge is something that every person in the world should abide to and be a part of.
